Liz Truss seems certain to become the next leader of the British Conservative Party, and thus the next Prime Minister.

Truss is, along with Rishi Sunak, campaigning to become the leader of the Tories. She and Sunak have both been crisscrossing the country to appear at a variety of hustings and events and lay out their plans for the party and the country.

Following a series of votes by Tory MPs, Truss and Sunak emerged as the two favoured candidates, with the final decision being made by the 200 000 ordinary Tory party members. Voting is already under way, with party members casting their ballots either through the post or online.

Polls from a variety of sources all seem to show the same result, with Truss having the support of about 60% of Tory party members.

The final result will be made known on 5 September.  It seems likely that Truss will become the third female Prime Minister of the UK, following in the footsteps of her Tory colleagues, Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May.
