The warring sides in Ethiopia are meeting this week in South Africa to try to find a peaceful solution to the end of the conflict.

Representatives from the Ethiopian central government and the Tigray people will be meeting in talks, which will be sponsored by the African Union.

Fighting between the two sides broke out again in August after a five-month ceasefire.

The conflict began in late 2020, following long-standing tension between Tigray and the central government. It is believed that both sides in the conflict have committed war crimes.

Tigrayan representatives said that their aim was the immediate cessation of hostilities, resumption of humanitarian aid, and the withdrawal of Eritrean troops.
