Herschel Walker, the Republican candidate for Senate in Georgia, who is running on a strongly anti-abortion platform, has suffered a blow after a woman has come forward saying he paid for her to terminate a pregnancy.

She is the second woman to come forward with this claim.

Both women have remained anonymous.

At a virtual news conference the woman, who did not appear on camera, said: ‘He has publicly taken the position that he is about life and against abortion under any circumstance, when in fact he pressured me to have an abortion and personally ensured that it occurred by driving me to the clinic and paying for it.’

Walker, a former professional American football player, has denied the claims.

Walker is running against Democratic incumbent, Raphael Warnock, ahead of the American mid-term elections next month.

Georgia has traditionally been a Republican state although in recent years the Democrats have been making advances. Current polling shows a dead heat between Warnock and Walker.
