Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has called out European hypocrisy on the issue of climate change.

Museveni said that Europe’s return to coal power plants in the midst of an energy crisis made a mockery of climate change targets. He also called out the hypocrisy of Western investment being allowed in African fossil-fuels projects, but only if the energy produced from these projects was exported to the West.

Said Museveni: ‘We will not accept one rule for them and another rule for us. We will not allow African progress to be the victim of Europe’s failure to meet its own climate goals.’

He said that Europe’s failures to meet climate change goals should not become an African problem.
