Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced that it will be holding a review into the performance of the national side at the T20 World Cup. The team failed to qualify for the semi-finals, needing to only beat the Netherlands in their final group game, which they failed to do.

Enoch Nkwe, CSA’s director of cricket, was quoted as saying: ‘It is important that we review what has happened. We are in the process of putting a panel together to ensure the review is very clinical.’

It is South Africa’s fourth successive failure to make it to the knockout stages of a major global tournament, having failed to make the semi-finals in the 2019 50-over World Cup, as well as being knocked out in the group stages of the 2016 and 2021 T20 World Cups.

There are also rumours that a number of senior Proteas players may look to retire from international cricket and rather play on the burgeoning global T20 circuit. At least one Protea dispelled these rumours, with Rilee Rossouw saying on Twitter he had no plans to retire.
