A report from the UN reveals that over 100 civilians were killed by the M23 rebel group in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in November.

A UN investigation found that at least 131 people from two villages had been killed by the rebels. The UN said that a number of girls and women had also been raped.

M23 denied the findings of the report and said that only eight people had been killed by stray bullets.

The President of the DRC, Felix Tshisekedi, said that Rwanda had been supplying weapons to the rebels in an attempt to destabilise the region, a claim that the UN concurs with.

M23 was founded about a decade ago and seemed to have ceased activity about five years ago. However, last year it has once again taken up arms.
