Paul Mashatile, the new deputy president of the ANC, was sworn in as an MP yesterday, paving the way for him to become the deputy president of South Africa. Current deputy president David Mabuza has expressed his desire to step down from the position.

Mashatile was sworn in as an MP along with newly minted deputy secretary general, Maropene Ramokgopa, former premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Sihle Zikalala, and former mayor of Johannesburg, Parks Tau.

Controversial ANC MP, Mervyn Dicks, who was recently suspended from the party when he called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to account for accusations that he knew public funds had been used for party political activities, was one of the MPs who resigned to make way for the new intake.

It is expected that President Ramaphosa will reshuffle his cabinet in the next few days.
