The Canadian government from yesterday banned the popular video-sharing platform, TikTok, from all devices issued by the government.

This followed a review by Canada which found that it posed ‘an unacceptable level of risk to privacy and security’.

This follows a similar ban by the European Commission. The US federal government also banned the use of TikTok on its devices, and a number of other organisations around the world have prohibited its use on devices issued by them.

TikTok has close links to the Chinese government and there are concerns over the security of private information that the website has.

In a statement, TikTok said: ‘We are always available to meet with our government officials to discuss how we protect the privacy and security of Canadians, but singling out TikTok in this way does nothing to achieve that shared goal. All it does is prevent officials from reaching the public on a platform loved by millions of Canadians.’
