The Electoral Commission (IEC) has released the most recent party funding report. This was for the third quarter of 2022.

Five parties reported donations – these were the ANC, DA, EFF, PA, ad ActionSA.

The ANC reported the highest donations with R32 million being given to the party. The Batho Batho Trust and United Manganese of Kalahari each donated R15 million to the party, while Naspers donated R2 million.

Naspers also donated R2 million to the DA, which also received donations from the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, a German political organisation with links to the liberal Free Democratic Party. Donations also came from Karen Creamer and the Fynbos Trust. Total donations for the third quarter for the DA amounted to just below R3 million.

ActionSA also received money from a German political foundation. The Konrad Adenauer Foundation, which has links to the German Christian Democrats, gave R180 000. The party also received money from Martin Moshal, who donated R3.5 million and the Africa Equity Corporation. The latter donated R1 million.

The EFF received just over R200 000 from a single donor, called Car Junction. This was an in-kind donation and paid for party- branded t-shirts and caps.

The PA also received donations from a single source. In this case the donation was from a PA party leader, Kenny Kunene, who donated R247 000.
