South Africa’s new Public Service and Administration Minister Noxolo Kiviet is being investigated by the Special Investigative Unit (SIU) for possible degree fraud.

According to News24, Kiviet obtained her Honours degree in Administration as well as a Master’s in Public Administration at the University of Fort Hare in the Eastern Cape without a Bachelor’s degree.

News24 reports that Kiviet was only in possession of a matric certificate and had a non-credit-bearing short course certificate which had handwritten results.

This information is set out in an affidavit submitted as part of the SIU’s probe into Kiviet. The revelation surrounding Kiviet comes just months after the SIU announced it would investigate allegations of maladministration in the awarding of Honours degrees, mismanagement of funds and sourcing of public servants for study for personal gain at Fort Hare.

Kiviet previously served as Public Service and Administration Deputy Minister under Ayanda Dlodlo.
