The EFF’s Tshwane Chairperson, Obakeng Ramabodu, has accused the DA of attempts to defeat the secret ballot by instructing its members to number their voting ballots for identification purposes.

Tshwane elected a new speaker from the ANC-led coalition party, Mncedi Ndzwanana of the African Transformation Movement (ATM), who garnered 105 votes, beating ActionSA councillor Kholofelo Morodi who received 37 votes.

The remaining 69 votes, which were deemed spoiled by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), are all alleged to be votes of DA councillors, who identified themselves by marking their ballots with numbers.

The DA has said it will be seeking legal advice on the validity of its ballots.
