A mysterious disease which has killed five people in Tanzania has been confirmed as being caused by the deadly Marburg Virus.

The virus causes a haemorrhagic fever similar to Ebola. Outbreaks of the disease have seen fatality rates as high as almost 90%.

Tanzania’s health minister, Ummy Mwalimu, issued a call for a calm, and said that the government had managed to contain the outbreak.

Apart from the five people that have died in the current outbreak, three people are in hospital. The government said it had also traced nearly 200 contacts of those who had been exposed to the virus.
