The tiger population in India is now above 3 000.
This is according to the latest census of the country’s number of tigers.
The census found that there 3 167 tigers inn the wild in India, up from the 2 967 reported in the last census, conducted four years ago.
Tigers used to be widespread across Asia but have lost about 93% of their historic range and scattered populations now exist in 13 countries.
About 75% of the world’s tigers are in India.
