Two men have been arrested in Hong Kong for shooting water pistols at police officers.

The incident happened during the ongoing festival of Songkran, which celebrates the Thai New Year. Traditionally revellers throw water and shoot water pistols at each other, in order to ward off bad luck.

The incident occurred in Kowloon in Hong Kong, which is home to a large Thai migrant community.

The two men, both in their 20s, shot water at police officers, resulting in their arrest for ‘disorderly conduct’.

One of the arrested men apparently runs a YouTube channel which had been critical of the Chinese and Hong Kong authorities in the past.

Civil liberties have become increasingly restricted in Hong Kong, with Beijing cracking down on pro-democracy movements and activists.
