Ed Sheeran, the English singer-songwriter, has won a copyright case in the US. He was accused of copying elements of the song, Let’s Get It On, by Marvin Gaye.

Sheeran had been taken to court by family members of Ed Townsend, who had co-written the song with Gaye.

Sheeran had said that he would quit the music business if found guilty. He has previously been taken to court over alleged copyright infringement, but has yet to be found guilty.

The BBC quoted Sheeran as saying: ‘It looks like I’m not going to have to retire from my day job after all. But at the same time I am absolutely frustrated that baseless claims like this are allowed to go to court at all. If the jury had decided this matter the other way we might as well say goodbye to the creative freedom of songwriters. I am not and will never allow myself to be a piggy bank for anyone to shake.’
