St Kitts and Nevis, an island nation in the Caribbean, has said that it will look into removing King Charles III as the country’s head of state.

Dr Terrance Drew, who was elected Prime Minister of the country in August last year, told the BBC that his country was ‘not totally free’ while the British monarch was still its head of state.

Drew also said that he would ‘welcome’ an apology from the monarchy for its role in the trans-Atlantic slave trade.

A number of countries are likely to investigate replacing King Charles III, who was crowned this weekend.

Currently the British king is the head of state of 15 countries. Barbados is the most recent country to ditch the monarchy, having become a republic in 2021.
