Tucker Carlson, the American television news show host, has announced that he will be hosting a new programme on Twitter.

Carlson, who was recently fired by Fox News, made the announcement in a three-minute-long video on Twitter.

In the video, Carlson criticised the American media, saying: ‘You can’t have a free society if people aren’t allowed to say what they think is true.’ He also said that Twitter was an important platform, as it was where the national conversation ‘incubates’. He described the social media platform as a non-partisan one where a wide range of views were found.

Elon Musk, Twitter’s owner, said no deal had been signed by Carlson, and he would be subject to the same rules as other content creators.

Carlson has become an increasingly influential figure in the US, and his show on Fox News attracted over three million viewers per episode.
