The Wagner Group, the group of Russian-aligned mercenaries, is no longer involved in combat operations in Ukraine.
This is according to the US, which said that the organisation was no longer involved in combat operations in ‘any significant capacity’. However, American intelligence said that it believed most Wagner fighters were still in Russian-occupied parts of Ukraine.
This report comes after an aborted uprising by the Wagner Group against the Russian government two weeks ago.
The Wagner Group has played an important role, up until now, in the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The whereabouts of the head of the Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prighozin, are currently unknown. He had reportedly gone into exile in Belarus but Minsk has said he is still in Russia.
