Nearly 2 000 South Africans are using Starlink, the satellite internet provider founded by South African-born entrepreneur and billionaire, Elon Musk.
Although Starlink does not have a licence to operate South Africans can access it by buying a roaming package in a country where it does have an operating licence and then using it in South Africa.
According to News24 about 1 700 South Africans are already using Starlink, which provides internet through a network of satellites in low-Earth orbit.
Starlink currently does not have an operating licence in this country with the authorities having said on a number of occasions that it would have to comply with BEE laws and regulations to be allowed to operate in South Africa.
Starlink already operates in a number of African countries.
