A comedy show featuring Graham Lineham has been cancelled because of Lineham’s views on gender.

The Irish-born Lineham created or co-created a number of classic British sitcoms, including Father Ted, Black Books, and The IT Crowd.

In recent years he has become outspoken about transgender people and opposes gender self-identification, where a person is legally treated as the opposite sex without any surgical intervention or hormonal therapy.

Lineham was due to appear in a comedy show in Edinburgh, as part of the city’s cultural Fringe festival, but the venue cancelled the show once they were made aware of Lineham’s participation, saying that his views do ‘not align with our values’.

Lineham said on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that he was being discriminated against for his ‘legally protected beliefs’.
