Lucy Letby, a nurse who killed at least seven babies, was last week sentenced to life in prison.
She killed seven babies and tried to kill another six in 2015 and 2016, at the Countess of Chester Hospital in the west of England.
She killed the babies using a variety of methods, including injecting them with air, poisoning them with insulin, and force-feeding them milk.
Letby, 33, refused to appear in court to hear her sentencing. She received a life sentence for each murder and attempted murder and was given a ‘whole life order’, meaning that she will die behind bars.
During her sentencing, the judge was quoted as saying: ‘You acted in a way that was completely contrary to the normal human instincts of nurturing and caring for babies and in gross breach of the trust that all citizens place in those who work in the medical and caring professions.’
He also said Letby showed no remorse.
Letby is believed to be the most prolific serial killer of children in modern British history. Only three other women have been given whole life orders in British legal history, including notorious serial killers, Rose West and Myra Hindley. The latter had been one of the infamous Moors Murderers.
