Prada, the iconic fashion house, will be designing the spacesuits that astronauts will wear when humans return to the Moon.
The American space agency, NASA, is currently planning on landing people on the Moon in 2025, as part of its Artemis programme. This will be the first time humans will be on the satellite since 1972.
Prada will be designing the suits in partnership with another private company, Axiom Space.
Jeffrey Hoffman, a former astronaut and currently a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, was quoted as saying: ‘Prada has considerable experience with various types of composite fabrics and may actually be able to make some real technical contributions to the outer layers of the new space suit.’
NASA also aims to land the first woman and first black person on the moon, as part of the Artemis programme.
