Schools in Zambia have remained closed in Zambia after the end-of-year holidays as part of government efforts to control a cholera outbreak in the country. Zambia says it has mobilized the national disaster management agency. Efforts to contain the outbreak have seen one of the country’s soccer stadiums converted into a treatment facility.

The Zambian Health Ministry says cholera has been detected in nearly half of the country’s districts and nine out of 10 provinces.

“This outbreak continues to pose a threat to the health security of the nation,” Health Minister Sylvia Masebo said.
