Solly Msimanga, the leader of the DA in Gauteng and its premier candidate for the province ahead of this year’s elections, claims that his vehicle was attacked by ANC supporters in Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria.

The DA had held an event in the area.

Msimanga said that his vehicle was attacked by ANC members. He also said that he had received threats prior to the event, warning him not to campaign in Hammanskraal.

News24 quoted Msimanga as saying: ‘Are people going to then resort to violence because people are scared of losing power? This is what has happened to my car; our activists are now scattered all over, and we are trying to get them out of here, but this cannot really be what this is all about. Thirty years into democracy, there can never be any no-go areas.’

Msimanga also said he would report the incident to the IEC.
