Police arrested a 13-year-old boy on Friday morning for allegedly shooting his school principal.

The shooting took place at Primrose Hill Primary School in Ekurhuleni. It is not clear at this point what led to the shooting.

A police spokesperson commented: ‘The circumstances that led to the shooting are unknown. Police have launched an investigation to establish the origin of the firearm, which has been seized by police.’

It has been reported that the gun belonged to the boy’s father. The boy and the principal had apparently encountered each other earlier in the morning. A short while later, the boy and the principal encountered each other near the school staff room, and at this time the shooting occurred.

The boy fled the scene but was apprehended a short distance from the school. He was carrying the gun in a pocket.
