A man suspected of having been involved in the 1994 Rwandan genocide has been arrested in Ohio in the United States.

Eric Nshimiye is alleged to have been personally involved in mass murders during the genocide, including personally hacking people to death.

About 800 000 people were killed between April and July 1994.

Nshimiye will appear in a federal court in Boston.

He came to the United States in 1995, allegedly after fraudulently claiming refugee status.

In recent years, the regime in Kigali has accused government critics of having been involved in the genocide in attempts to silence them. However, it does not appear to be the case in this instance.
