Siya Kolisi, the captain of the Springboks, has been named by Time magazine as one of the world’s 100 most influential people.

Trevor Noah, the South African comedian, wrote the section on Kolisi, calling him ‘an incessant warrior’ on the field and saying that he had been the ‘embodiment of hope’ for a country going through crisis.

Time releases a list each year of the world’s most influential people. Apart from Kolisi, other notable figures on this year’s list were the British actor, Dev Patel; the singer, Kylie Minogue; Back to the Future star and activist against Parkinson’s disease, Michael J Fox; current F1 World Champion, Max Verstappen; and Argentinian president, Javier Milei.

Kolisi was the Springboks’ first black captain.  He led South Africa to two Rugby World Cup victories, only the second man to do so after New Zealand’s Richie McCaw.

He is currently playing for Racing 92 in France.
