Jongiziwe Dlabathi has been appointed as the new MMC for finance in Ekurhuleni.

The ANC councillor replaces the EFF’s Nkululeko Dunga, who was removed from the post in June.

Ekurhuleni mayor, Nkosindiphile Xhakaza was quoted as saying: “Alderman Dlabathi brings strategic acumen and extensive expertise in local government practice to this role, having served as the whip of the council since 2016. Furthermore, he currently holds the position of provincial chairperson of the South African Local Government Association (Salga) in Gauteng.”

EFF leader, Julius Malema, said last month that it would pull its support from the ANC in places in Gauteng where it governs in coalition with the ANC if Dunga was not reinstated, but this has not yet happened.
