Mali has said that it has cut diplomatic ties with Ukraine.

This follows speculation that Kiev had played a role in fighting between Malian soldiers and Tuareg separatists, with Mali receiving support from the Wagner mercenary group.

A spokesman for Ukrainian military intelligence said that the rebels had been given “necessary information” to carry out the attacks.

The Malian government said that it had suffered “significant losses” in the fighting close to the Algerian border, with the clashes beginning on 25 July.

Following the Ukrainian statements, Mali said it was breaking off diplomatic relations with Ukraine with “immediate effect”.
