The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has brought a case against Rwanda in the the East African Court of Justice, accusing it of supporting the M23 rebel group in its uprising against the Congolese government in eastern DRC.
A UN report earlier this year estimated that around 3 500 Rwandan troops were aiding the M23 rebels to combat DRC government forces and UN peacekeepers, which includes South African troops.
In the lawsuit before the court, Congo is seeking a verdict which will condemn Rwanda not just for undermining its sovereignty but also for committing crimes against civilians in DRC.
Rwanda has questioned the jurisdiction of the East African Court of Justice in deciding the matter.
