The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF)  launched a new military operation, in an attempt to retake Sudan’s capital of Khartoum, from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Heavy fighting has destroyed much of the city and driven most of the civilian population out of the city. Those who remain face disease and starvation as Sudan’s civil war continues to tear the country apart.

In the last year, the RSF, based in the Darfur region of the country have made steady progress, capturing territory from the SAF. The SAF has recently regained some initiative and seeks to push back the RSF and reclaim territory it recently controlled.
