Elon Musk, the South African-born billionaire, has said that Nigel Farage is the wrong man to lead the British Reform Party.

Commenting on X (formerly Twitter) – a platform that he owns – Musk said: “The Reform Party needs a new leader. Farage doesn’t have what it takes.”

This comes after Farage distanced himself from comments made by Musk in support of an anti-immigration activist, Simon Yaxley-Lennon, better known as Tommy Robinson.

In response to Musk’s post on X, Farage said: “Well, this is a surprise! Elon is a remarkable individual, but on this I am afraid I disagree. My view remains that Tommy Robinson is not right for Reform, and I never sell out my principles.”

In last year’s British election, Reform won 14% of the vote. Only the Labour and Conservative parties won more support in terms of vote share, but because of the vagaries of the British first-past-the-post system, Reform only managed to secure five seats in the 650-member British parliament. However, some analysts believe that if Reform continues to draw the support of disillusioned Tory voters, it could become a major player in British politics.
