Six Australian universities have closed down Chinese Confucian Institutes (CIs) operating on their campuses.

In recent years the Australian government has put these CIs under additional scrutiny over concerns that they are used to spread Chinese government propaganda and spy on Chinese students.

While six universities closed CIs, seven of them are still operating around the country.

The Australian government has said it will not allow any more CIs to open in the country.

According to the BBC, the University of New South Wales said that after its closure of the CI on its campus, it would be developing its own China programme.
