The England cricket tour of Australia is set to go ahead at the end of the year.

There were initially fears that England would send a significantly weakened squad, or refuse to tour at all, because of Australian regulations around Covid-19 and quarantine.

However, it now seems that the English cricket authorities are happy with the arrangements that their Australian counterparts will make and are happy to go ahead with the series.

The primary concern for the English players was about the quarantine regulations that their families who would like to accompany them to Australia would face, with a number of players indicating they would not tour if their families were not allowed into Australia or faced onerous quarantine regulations. This now seems to have been resolved.

England has named its strongest possible squad, with in-form captain, Joe Root, leading the squad.

Ben Stokes, the all-rounder, will not tour, as he continues his break from the game, while Jimmy Anderson will tour Australia for the fifth time, at the age of 39.

The full squad is: Joe Root (capt), James Anderson, Jonathan Bairstow, Dom Bess, Stuart Broad, Rory Burns, Jos Buttler, Zak Crawley, Haseeb Hameed, Dan Lawrence, Jack Leach, Dawid Malan, Craig Overton, Ollie Pope, Ollie Robinson, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood.

The first Test is scheduled to begin on 8 December in Brisbane, with the fifth and final Test beginning on 14 January in Perth.
