Russia has produced a set of demands pertaining to countries in Eastern Europe and Russian security.

According to the BBC Russia has advanced a set of proposals regarding security in the region. It has said that it wants guarantees that members of NATO, which used to be part of the Soviet Union or broader Soviet Bloc, such as Poland and the Baltic states, do not deploy troops or equipment which could be seen as a threat to Russia. Another demand is that Ukraine and Georgia, two former Soviet republics, do not join NATO.

These demands come amid growing tensions between Russia and other countries, including the US, with fears of a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Russia has asked for urgent talks between itself and the US. The US has said it is open to dialogue but that it also had concerns it would raise and that there would be no talks with Russia without the US’s European allies.
