The Minerals Council of South Africa (formerly the Chamber of Mines) is leaving its offices in the Johannesburg CBD and will be trekking north, to Rosebank.

According to Mining Weekly, the Council has been in its current building for over a century. The building, in Hollard Street, was built in 1921 and hosted the Chamber’s first board meeting in 1922.

Roger Baxter, the CEO of the Minerals Council, was quoted by Mining Weekly as saying: ‘The time has come to move to premises that are better suited to serving our members in a modern, easily accessible, and efficient environment.’

There are reportedly a number of buyers interested in the Council’s former building, part of which will be preserved for its historical value.
