England won the third Test in Port Elizabeth by an innings to go 2-1 up in the four-match series against South Africa.

The English wrapped up a clinical win on the fifth morning, bowling South Africa out for 237 in their second innings, to win by an innings and 53 runs.

England had scored 499/9 declared, before bowling South Africa out for 209 in their first innings and enforcing the follow on.

This was the first time that South Africa had followed on in a home Test for nearly twenty years.

The last wicket pair of Keshav Maharaj and Dane Paterson showed some resistance on the fifth morning, with a 99-run partnership, South Africa’s third highest in Tests for the final wicket. The resistance was ended when Maharaj was run out by Sam Curran for 71, one short of his personal best in Test matches.

Ollie Pope, who scored a century for England and took six catches in the outfield was named man-of-the-match.

The final Test starts on Friday at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. If South Africa wins they will square the series but on current form this seems highly unlikely.
