Alan Winde, the premier of the Western Cape, and his Cabinet have all passed independent lifestyle audits.

In a statement Winde said that when he became Premier last year he committed to ‘clean and open governance,’ which would include lifestyle audits.

An independent contractor, Nexus Forensic Services, was appointed to investigate Winde and the members of his Cabinet. The report, which covered the period from 1 June 2017 to 31 May 2019 (when Winde appointed his Cabinet), found ‘that all members of cabinet and their spouses live a lifestyle in line with their income and that there were no conflicts of interest’.

This comes in the midst of the ANC finding itself beset with allegations of corruption, with many of its senior members alleged to have benefited from corrupt tenders linked to procurement for equipment to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
