A six-year-old French bulldog named Wilbur has been elected mayor of a hamlet of 500 residents in Kentucky in the United States.

While millions of Americans – and avid election-watchers across the globe – anxiously await the outcome of this week’s presidential contest between incumbent Donald Trump and his Democrat rival Joe Biden, the residents of Rabbit Hash on the outskirts of Cincinnati made election news of their own.

NBC News reported that the idea of electing animal mayors in Rabbit Hash was proposed by a local man in the late 1990s as a fundraising device for the hamlet’s historical society.

According to Wilbur’s owner, Amy Noland, the tiny town has never had a human mayor.

There have been five dog mayors of Rabbit Hash since the first, named Goofy.
