The Mumbai Indians became only the second Indian Premier League (IPL) team to win back-to-back trophies, after beating the Delhi Capitals in Dubai on Tuesday night.

The Mumbai Indians are the first team since the Chennai Super Kings, in 2010 and 2011, to clinch consecutive titles. They are the only two teams to achieve this feat.

Delhi Capitals had scored 156/7 in their 20 overs with Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant each scoring half-centuries. New Zealander Trent Boult was the Indians’ best bowler, with 3/30 in his four overs.

In reply Mumbai chased down the score with eight balls to spare, a fairly comfortable victory in a T20 match. Captain Rohit Sharma scored 68 to guide his team home.

Three South Africans were involved in the match, with Quinton de Kock turning out for Mumbai Indians and fast bowlers Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje playing for Delhi.

Rabada was the tournament’s leading wicket taker, finishing with 30 wickets in 17 matches.

Other South Africans that fared well in the tournament were Quinton de Kock and AB de Villiers, who each finished in the top ten runs corers in the tournament, and Faf du Plessis, who finished with the 11th most runs. Rabada’s Delhi teammate, Anrich Nortje, finished with the fourth most wickets.

International cricket returns to South Africa later this month, when England arrive for a series of limited overs matches.
