Argentina beat New Zealand for the first time ever, when they won 25-15 in Sydney yesterday.

The Pumas’ key man was flyhalf Nicholas Sanchez, who scored all the points for the men from South America, including a try.

The match, played in Sydney, was part of the Tri-Nations, once again a three team competition after World Champions South Africa opted to not play, because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Because of the global health emergency all matches are being played in Australia.

Argentina went into the break leading 16-3, their biggest ever lead over New Zealand at the half way point. They easily held onto the lead with the All Blacks scoring a try in extra time to make the margin less embarrassing.

Argentina becomes only the eighth team to ever beat New Zealand in a Test match. It is the Argentinians’ first victory in 30 attempts against the men from the Land of the Long White Cloud. There had previously been one draw between the two countries.

Last week New Zealand lost against Australia, making it two losses in a row for the All Blacks, a rare occurrence in Test match rugby.
