Indian and Chinese troops engaged in what has been described as a ‘brawl’ at Naka La in Sikkim, on the border between the two countries.

According to media reports, Chinese troops moved into Indian-held territory. While no firearms were used, soldiers on both sides are said to have suffered injuries.

The confrontation occurred at a location thousands of kilometres from the Ladakh region, which came to global attention last year when Chinese and Indian troops were killed in a violent confrontation there.

In related developments, senior Chinese and Indian military officers met on Sunday in discussions lasting some 16 hours, seeking a de-escalation of tensions.

India is particularly concerned about the growth of Chinese military capacities along the disputed border. These include the construction and expansion of air bases, the constructionn of internal infrastructure and the deployment of forces.
