On Friday morning police were deployed, to Nkandla in Kwazulu-Natal.

A viral message which called for #ShutdownKZN has spread like wildfire and has led to protests across the province, that are intended to showcase support for former President Zuma.

Thembeka Mbele who is KZN’s provincial police spokesperson was quoted as saying:

“We can confirm there is protest action in the King Cetshwayo district and the N2 is closed due to protesters burning tyres and trucks blocking the road. There are no reports of any arrests.”

“Within Durban there are only service delivery protests in the Umzinyathi, Nqutu and Ntuzuma areas,” Mbele said.

This indicates that there are two separate reasons for multiple protests happening in the province. However, provincial government has pleaded with protestors to bring an end to the violent protests due to the millions of rand in damaged infrastructure that have resulted from these demonstrations.
