The national governing party of India the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is polling well ahead of its competitors in the coastal Indian state of Goa.

According to a rolling poll done by polling firm CVoter, the BJP share of the vote is expected to climb by near 7% from the 32.5% it achieved in 2017.

The position of official opposition, which is currently held by the Indian National Congress (INC) however, is set to be displaced by the relatively new Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The AAP was formed out of a national anti-corruption movement and only received 6.3% of the vote previously. This time round it is polling at 22.2%, gains which seem to be coming mostly from INC voters.

The polling results are yet another sign that the once dominant Indian National Congress, which governed India from independence in 1947 for most of its history until its catastrophic defeat in 2014 to the BJP, is a dwindling force in Indian electoral politics.
