Three more suspects have been arrested in relation to the July 2021 unrest, the Hawks said yesterday, according to News24

This brings the number of arrests to 25. The latest suspects were due to appear in court today.

Twenty-two suspected instigators of the violence appeared in the Durban Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

The Hawks said more arrests were imminent.

In a separate report, News24 said its own initial investigation of the names of the 22 suspects arrested by the Hawks last week and accused of instigating the July 2021 riots indicates that only one ‘can accurately be described as a key figure in fanning the flames of looting and destruction that ripped through KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng’.

The news platform reported on Friday that one of Zuma’s daughters, Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, was still under investigation by police for her alleged role. The jailing of Jacob Zuma, who was found in contempt of a Constitutional Court order to appear before the Zondo Commission into state capture, sparked the riots and looting.

More than 300 people died or were murdered during the violence.
