Unita, the second-biggest political party in Angola, has filed a legal challenge to the results of an election held on 24 August.

Official results showed the governing MPL winning 51.2% of the vote, its worst showing yet, while Unita managed 44%. This was Unita’s best performance ever in an election.

Unita claimed that there had been numerous irregularities in the poll, and said it had filed a complaint with the National Electoral Commission last week.
