The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has decided not to prosecute Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana after a case of sexual assault was opened against him in August, News24 reports.

This followed a ‘thorough assessment’ of ‘all available evidence’, and consultations with the complainant ‘who expressly did not wish to proceed with the case’.

News24 reports that police investigators had grilled Godongwana on his version of events after being accused of fondling a woman while she was giving him a massage in his Kruger National Park hotel room.

The incident was alleged to have occurred in Skukuza on 9 August.

Godongwana maintained his innocence throughout.

The NPA announced on Friday that Mpumalanga Director of Public Prosecutions Adv Nkebe Kanyane had decided Godongwana would not be prosecuted.

The statement said: ‘The decision follows a thorough assessment of all available evidence and after consultations with the complainant who expressly did not wish to proceed with the case despite being offered all the necessary support available to complainants in cases of this nature.’
