An agreement has been reached between the governments of South Africa and Mozambique, where Mozambique will provide its neighbour with 100 MW of electricity.
The agreement was announced earlier this week after Pretoria had requested assistance from Maputo last week.
A number of details need to be ironed out, such as what the cost of the energy will be and how it will be supplied to South Africa. However, Carlos Zacarias, Mozambique’s mineral resources and energy minister, said that he believed that this would be agreed upon ‘soon’.
Zacarias also said that within six months Mozambique would make an additional 600 MW available to South Africa.
