An earthquake, measured at between 5.2 and 5.8 on the Richter scale, hit France on Friday.

It was felt in a number of French cities with the town of La Laigne, in the west of the country, being worst affected.

No fatalities were reported although two people were reportedly injured. However, a large number of buildings have been declared uninhabitable as a result of damage from the quake.

Earthquakes are relatively rate in France with the last one being reported in 2019.

The quake in France comes a week after an earthquake hit Gauteng. This was estimated at having been a magnitude five quake on the Richter scale.
