Transport minister Fikile Mbalula has encouraged young people to seek opportunities in the aviation sector.

Speaking in Polokwane on Saturday at celebrations around International Civil Aviation Day (ICAD), Minister Mbalula said that parts of the population – black people and women – had not been adequately involved in aviation in the past. It was government’s intention to ensure that they had opportunities to work in the sector,

Aviation exhibitions – such as the one held in Polokwane – would ‘ignite an appetite for everyone who wants to play in the space.’

He said that plentiful opportunities for employment existed in aviation, but demanded particular skills, such as maths. The government wanted to make these accessible for poor youth who were not in a position to undertake the training at their own expense.

When asked if rumours were true that he intended to parachute, the flamboyant minister said that as ‘Razmatazz’ he liked to ‘walk the talk’, and he regarded it as his duty to inspire others.

‘I can’t be into something and I just look where I’m hishey-hishey-hishey… I’ve got to be higgie-higgie-higgie THERE!’ he concluded with a flourish.

We at the Daily Friend are unable to express an opinion as to the higgie-higgie-higgie-ness of the minister’s presence, but it is certainly something we intend to follow in future.
